Since 2013, the City has been able go to a neutral and compare a retiree's current healthcare plan to the one offered by their employer. They have not chosen to do so.
On June 6th, 2018 an arbitrator's ruling on our 2017-2019 contract included a provision for the City to start comparing retirees' healthcare that work for the County of Berks. This particular provision was not a subject of bargaining during arbritation, as we only sought to minimize the increases in our current contributions.
Periodically, the City will send out audit letters to retirees about what health insurance might be offered by a current employer or spouses employer. Please fill out the information accurately and send back in a timely manner.
Afterwards, if you should get a letter from the City seeking to remove you from healthcare, please follow the directions in a timely manner. Gather whatever documents you have regarding your individual situations, and contact a board member. CONTACT US
